How does an AI promptist "grow and improve" exactly?
I can only speak for myself on this (and sincerely hope your comment is meant to be taken as opening a dialogue), as I don't want to assume other peoples work flow, and I'll probably butcher my own reply, but for me it's how to better refine prompts to achieve the results I'm envisioning, or failing that, getting me as close as possible in a single image.
It's learning the limitations of specific prompt combinations and programs, and how to work around them to achieve a desired result.
It's learning how the different algorithms operate, and learning to operate within their confines to maximize reach.
It's keeping an eye on trends and interactions and tailoring what I work on to bring the most enjoyment to the most people (within reason).
It's better learning certain tools and methods so that if I can only take a certain piece so far with just prompts, I'm able to take on a far more "hands-on" approach to take it from 60-80% of what I'm (or someone else is) envisioning, to 100%.
Okay, fair enough. I get the impression that a lot of AI promptists are just trying to make a quick buck by mass-producing content and aren't actually putting any thought or effort into what they do. I've used specially tailored AI prompts to produce horror art, taking advantage of GANs that were only partially trained to created uniquely twisted and distorted imagery. There's a way to do it that's creative and artistic and then there's the way a lot of people do it - focusing on quantity rather than quality. I've had to change my DA settings to not show me AI art, not because I don't like it, but because if I allow AI art, then it's basically impossible to find anything else due to how oversaturated the site is with mass-produced junk.
